Artist Statement & Biography
Toni Scott, a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation and of African American heritage, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans decades and is deeply rooted in multiple media. Her sculptures, paintings, digital works, and installations interweave organic and non-organic forms with explorations of language, genetic memory, and social justice. Through this distinctive approach, Scott forges a visual dialogue between personal lineage and collective history—one that embodies cultural resilience and a profound commitment to human dignity.
Working across painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and digital art, Scott creates immersive experiences that are both intimate and expansive. Her current use of raw and found materials is not only aesthetic but conceptual, allowing nature and structure alike to speak through form, texture, and rhythm. Often layered with poetic text, archival research, and symbolic gestures, her works are grounded yet transcendent—anchored in lived experience and expanded through spiritual and cultural inquiry.
The Toni Scott Art Salon located in the Elevate Gallery at the La Cumbre Center for Creative Arts (LCCCA) in the La Cumbre Plaza in Santa Barbara, is both a studio and a sanctuary—an evolving space where creativity, healing, and conversation intersect. The Salon presents a wide range of Scott’s work across decades, from abstraction to representation, inviting the public into a dynamic archive of her vision. Through this platform, she asks: How do we carry memory in the body? What stories shape our understanding of justice, beauty, and belonging? What does it mean to heal in a fragmented world?
Scott’s work has been exhibited internationally in leading museums and institutions across the United States and China. Her acclaimed installations address themes of ancestry, resilience, and the often-erased histories of marginalized communities. Her Bloodlines series, among others, has positioned her as a bold and visionary voice in contemporary art.
She holds an MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has also studied at USC and Otis College of Art and Design. Through every facet of her practice, Toni Scott remains committed to creating work that is not only visually compelling, but also emotionally and socially transformative.
