Art allows us to see the familiar through new eyes and give voice to our subconscious. For me, it is a journey of transformation for both artist and viewer. My work is a combination of abstract and figurative elements as I am drawn to both. Fusing representational and abstract elements to capture the figure and emotion of the moment is what most interests me. My figures are usually women as I explore, reevaluate and unravel changing definitions, expectations and perceptions of women in the world and redefine what the power and strength of women looks like. Currently working with topographic maps, pencil and ink, I have been exploring images that are suggested by the edges and topographic elevation lines in the maps, bringing out the figures in the land. I want to create work that calls forth a feeling, a connection, a sense of something beyond the image itself both for myself and the viewer.
