JIM BALSITIS

I have been active in photography since I was very young. College was my first deep experience in photography while taking photography courses and learning about the darkroom and the art of photography. I graduated with a degree in architecture and entered various careers in cartography, design, construction, and now facility management. Photography has always played a role in my professional career in various ways. Until later in life my photographic equipment has been on the low end and what I could afford. I am now able to invest in better, or more professional equipment, and though the equipment doesn’t make a photographer successful, it does help give one the latitude to find our focus or our calling. My calling or focus is on black and white photography in landscape, architecture, and other areas. While I would love to shoot film and have a darkroom, that it is not feasible, and therefore I shoot digital. While I sometimes convert color digital photographs to black and white, I mostly shoot in pure black and white with a monochrome camera. Photography has now become my foremost hobby which will take me comfortably into retirement bliss.
